Instructions for biomolecule organizer (assignment can be found and downloaded below):

- Column 1 - Name of molecule and basic description: For each of the major biomolecules there up to three variations in form of that molecule. For example, there are three basic forms of lipids we will discuss; triglycerides, phospholipids, and steroids. Along with the molecules name, you will also be describing what the name of molecule actually means (ex: monosaccharide = single or simple sugar)

- Column 2 - Monomers or Building blocks: only fill out this section if there are components that are structurally always there. For example, a triglyceride is always made up of 3 fatty acids and a glycerol. 

- Column 3 - Elements present and diagram: In this section you want to list the elements that are ALWAYS found in that biomolecule. In the case of proteins, you would expect to find H, O, N, C and sometimes S and P. So you would only list H,O,N,C. For the diagram, draw a simple molecular structure that is small enough to fit within the box. (THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT- WE WILL BE REVISITING THESE STRUCTURES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR). 

- Column 4 - List at least two major bodily functions that require these molecules. 

- Column 5 - Examples of foods or molecules in the body. Only list at least two foods for the big three (carbs, lipids, and proteins). For all other molecules, including the big three, list a macromolecule in the body that is composed of these biomolecules. For example, along with foods for the globular protein you would list that it forms antibodies. 

- Finally, use a colored pencil or marker and draw a different colored box around all of the groups (carbs, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids, and ATP).
