Module  6.3 - Gross Anatomy of Skeletal Muscles

There are over 650 muscles in the human body, all of which have a specific name and role within the body. We WILL NOT by any means memorize all of these muscles or get even close to doing such a thing. Instead, each student will be assigned a group of sample muscles and create cards that include information necessary in identifying and classifying muscles. This will give you a quick snapshot of the vast amount of information that goes into a more advanced anatomy class!

Module 6.3 Warm-Up

- Directions: In your module guide, complete a "sample muscle card". This will be the introduction to the assignment that you will be completing later on in the module.

- Pick one of the following muscles (following options will not be included in muscle card activity) Latissimus dorsi, Pectoralis minor,Vastus lateralis

- Use either of the following below to find information:

Essential Vocab:

model of contraction, neuromuscular junction, synaptic cleft, depolarization, repolarization, excitation contraction, motor unit, myogram, muscle twitch, isotonic contractions, eccentric contractions, isometric contractions

Module Objectives:

3.1 – Define origin, insertion, prime mover, antagonist, synergist, and fixator as they relate to the muscles.

3.2 – Demonstrate or identify the different types of body movements

3.3 – List some criteria used in naming muscles

3.4 – Name and locate the major muscles of the human body, and state the action of each.
