Module  3.1 : Cell Basics

- Scientists have been very successful in exploiting some the characteristics that make prokaryotic cells different from eukaryotic cells.

Module 3.1 Warm-Up :

- Directions: USING YOUR SPECIALIZED CELL TYPE and a partner.

1) Find someone in the class that has a different cell type than the one that you picked.

2) Have that individual share their GoogleDoc with you.

3) Examine their cell PICTURE ONLY.

4) Complete the following two tasks in your module 3.4 warm-up section.

- TASK #1: Sketch the cell as that person had created with their model.

- TASK #2:Each cell has a unique function. Predict how the anatomy is specially designed for that cell's physiology.(why is that shape so important for the cells function?)

Essential Vocab:

cell theory, generalized cell, composite cell, organelle, plasma membrane, cytoplasm, mitochondria, ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulum, golgi apparatus, secondary vesicles, lysosomes, peroxisomes, cytoskeleton, microtubules, intermediate filaments, centrosome, centrioles, nucleus, nuclear envelope, nuclear pores, nucleoli, chromatin

Module Objectives:

1.1 – Define: cell, organelle, and inclusion.

1.2 – List the structures of the cell, organelles, and contents of the nucleus. Be able to describe the function of all components of the cell.
